Fine art prints of American Flamingoes for the walls of your home or office.

The American flamingo (phoenicopterus ruber) was common in Florida until around 1900 when they disappeared from the state. Through the years since then, there have been vagrants in small numbers, from the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico, Cuba and the Bahamas but nothing substantial until 2014 when a flock of 147 showed up in western Palm Beach County in south Florida. Although the numbers haven't been quite that high since then, it seems that they are showing up between January and June and some have been seen mating. The breeding season is from March through May.

They prefer shallow saline lagoons, mudflats, and shallow brackish coastal or inland lakes, so that they can feed on the algae and small crustaceans that give them their coloring. They are filter feeders using their specially adapted beaks to strain their prey from the water and can forage in waters too saline for most other birds or animals.
