Pinecone Ginger

This pinecone ginger was blooming in a yard in Riverview, Fldorida.

Pinecone Ginger, Zingiber zerumbet, aka bitter ginger, shampoo ginger, and wild ginger, is native to tropical Asia. It is a clumping perennial that usually grows near water.

After this stage, the bloom will turn red.

The black-eyed susan vine, Thunbergia alata, is a herbaceous perennial native to eastern Africa. This was found in lower Hardee County, Florida. The colors range from yellow to orange.

American White Waterlily

An American white waterlily, Nymphaea odorata, also know as beaver root, growing in the marshes along the Lake Apopka North Shore Wildlife Drive in central Florida.

You can find it in shallow lakes, ponds, and permanent slow moving wateers from Central America to northern Canada.
