The green anole (anolis carolinensis) can be found in the Southeastern United States from Virginia to Florida and west to central Texas and Oklahoma. Look for them in habitat with high humidity like swamps, forests, wooded beaches and other areas with trees.

Anolis carolinensis eats all types of small insects and spiders, but only notices moving prey. They get most of their water from the dew on plants.

It is the only anole that has the ability to change color, like a chameleon. The males display with head bobs and by extending their dewlap.
