The mute swan (cygnus olor) is native to much of Europe and Asia and a winter visitor to the far north of Africa. It is an introduced species in North America, Australasia and southern Africa. It is found naturally in the temperate areas of Eugope and across western Asia as far east as the Russinan Maritimes, near Sidemi. It is partiallhy migratory through the northern latitudes in Europe and Asia as far south as North Africa and the Mediterranean.

Cygnus olor is a large bird that feeds mainly on vegetation on land and in the water. It also feeds occassionally on frogs, tadpoles, fish, snails, mollusks and insects.

There is presently a small population of mute swans that were introduced on Lake Morton in Lakeland, Florida as a gift from the Queen of England. They reside there with black swans from Australia, and black-necked and white coscoroba swans from southern South America.
