Sand in Your Shoes

One of the most dramatic set of sand dunes at St. Joseph Peninsula State Park. A storm cut into the dunes years ago leaving this dramatic stretch.These dunes almost totally bury adult pine trees as they "walk" across the peninsula. At 60' to 80' tall they are very impressive. What looks like brush on the tops of the dunes, is really full grown live oak trees, stunted by the salt in the soil.

Salt Marsh View

This is a view from one island to another across a channel and salt marsh that shows part of the non-tourist side of Cedar Key, Florida. The city is built on a number of islands in the Gulf of Mexico on the west coast of Florida, of which Way Key is the most populated. With a resident population of less that 1,000, it has one of the few remaining K-12 public schools in the United States.

Salt Water Tidal Flat

The St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge was extablished in 1931 for migratory birds and covers parts of three Florida counties, Jefferson, Taylor, and Wakulla. It stretches along 43 miles of the Gulf Coast of northwest Florida, encompassing over 70,000 acres. It consists of coastal marsh, islands, tidal creeks and the estruaries of seven Florida rivers.
