Butterflies and Moths

To make it easier to picture various butterflies and moths in the wild, browse the images below.

 

The eastern tiger swallowtail (papilio glaucus) can be found in woodlands, fields, roadsides and gardens, and beside rivers and streams in eastern North America from Ontario to Florida, west to Texas and the Great Plains. Look for them from February to November in the south and May to September in the northern portion of their range.

Passion Butterfly

The gulf fritillary butterfly is found in parks, gardens and open country. Also known as the passion buttetrfly, it ranges from the southern United States to Argentina in South America. This agraulis vanillae was found in early may of 2016 feeding on the nectar of phlox along side State Road 50 in Hernando County, Florida.
