Butterflies and Moths

To make it easier to picture various butterflies and moths in the wild, browse the images below.

 

The eastern tiger swallowtail (papilio glaucus) can be found in woodlands, fields, roadsides and gardens, and beside rivers and streams in eastern North America from Ontario to Florida, west to Texas and the Great Plains. Look for them from February to November in the south and May to September in the northern portion of their range.

Polyphemus Moth

I spotted something fluttering outside my front door one morning and and at first thought that it was a bird. When I opened the door I found this polyphemus moth. With a wingspan of 5 to 6 inches, it is very impressive.
