Ft. Meade Historical Museum
The Ft. Meade Historical Museum is located on the northwest corner of W. Broadway St. and Tecumseh Avenue in Ft. Meade, Florida and houses many artifacts from the area. It is in the restored, circa 1885, Old Ft.Meade School House, previously located on S. Lanier Avenue and moved to its current location in 1989.
Ft. Meade is the oldest city in Polk County, Florida, dating to 1849. It was established on the military road between Ft. Brooke (Tampa) and Ft. Pierce, Florida where it crossed the Peace River.Originally called Ft. Clinch, it was renamed after the civil war for Union General Meade, who had once served there.

Archbold Biological Station
The Archbold Biological Station at Red Hill was established in 1941 and is one of the most renowned research centers in the world. With 5,193 acres lying within the headwaters of the Everglades in south central Florida it attracts scientists from around the world for field study of the natural environments and organisms of the Lake Wales Ridge and adjacent central Florida areas. It is on the National Historical register.
